ASP -Active Server Pages, a specification that generates dynamically created Web Pages. These server side dynamic pages allow user interaction and database connectivity, providing for a wealth of Web Application functionality, such as shopping carts, Newsgroups and Discussion Forums. All of the specialized applications shown on this Coastal Web example site are created with ASP pages. When a Web browser requests an ASP page, the Web server generates a page with HTML code and sends it back to the browser. ASP pages are similar to CGI scripts, but they enable programmers who are familiar with Microsoft's programming languages to work with similar development tools.
The .NET framework created by Microsoft is a software development platform focused on rapid application development, platform independence and network transparency. .NET is Microsoft's strategic initiative for server and desktop development for the next decade. According to Microsoft, .NET includes many technologies that are designed to facilitate rapid development of Internet and intranet applications. |
